Fordyces Condition is a common skin disorder which is characterized by tiny yellow dots occuring in groups and sometimes in smooth sheets on the lips, inside mouth, and rarely on the genital skin. Fordyce's condition is also known as Fordyce's disease or Fordyce's spots. They are generally not dangerous.

The papules are present at birth but only become prevalent when the child reaches puberty. Fordyces Condition is a common condition in which small yellow dots are observed in the oral mucous membrane; these represent misplaced sebaceous glands. Fordyces Condition is a chronic degenerative skin disorder.

Symptoms of Fordyces Condition

In Fordyces Condition tiny yellow dots occur in groups and sometimes in sheets on the lips or other body parts including genitals. There is no correlation between Fordyce's Condition and systemic conditions.

Causes of Fordyces Condition

The cause of Fordyces Condition is unknown. These problems are hereditary (tend to run in families). Neither sebaceous hyperplasia or Fordyce's condition is contagious.

No treatment is necessary. Tretinoin cream or gel used daily will reverse sebaceous hyperplasia slowly overtime and will also help keep the condition from worsening. If the lesions are becoming unsightly and you really feel something needs to be done, a powerful, expensive drug named Accutane will reverse sebaceous hyperplasia, but you will develop new lesions after you stop the medication unless you also use tretinoin cream regularly. TCA chemical peels will also reverse sebaceous hyperplasia, but new lesions will occur slowly after treatment. Fordyce's condition is usually left untreated.
