| Directions
For the pastry:
150 grams (5 1/2 oz.) plain flour (maida)
A pinch salt
2 teaspoons powdered sugar
75 grams (2 3/4 oz.) butter
1 tablespoon powdered cashew nuts or almonds
For the apple tart:
2 sliced apples
25 grams (1 oz.) butter
30 grams (1 oz.) granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon powdered sugar
A little milk for brushing

Method:
To serve:
Vanilla ice-cream or fresh cream
For the pastry:
1. Mix the flour, salt and sugar and sieve. Rub in butter and enough water and make soft dough.
2. Mix the powdered nuts thoroughly in the dough.
3. Roll out the dough to suit a 225 mm. (9") diameter tray. Prick with a fork all over.
How to proceed:
1. Put a baking tray on the gas with the butter and granulated sugar. When the sugar turns brown in color, switch of the gas and allow it to cool a little.
2. Spread the apple slices on the tray and sprinkle the lemon juice and powdered sugar.
3. Place the rolled pastry dough over the apple slices and brush with a little milk. Bake in a moderate oven at 190 degree C (375 degree F) for 20 to 25 minutes. Turn it upside down.
4. Serve with vanilla ice-cream or fresh cream.
